Welcome back, Happy Army!
Today we are gonna talk reinventing yourself.
A common misconception is that self-improvement is a one-time event. We often believe that once we’ve figured things out or built a reputation, that’s the end of the journey — as if there’s nothing left to revisit, adjust, or even improve, assuming we still can.
That is definitely not the case!

Life is full of reinvention. We often revisit ourselves after major transitions, during recovery from difficult times, or even when we’re simply feeling stuck.
Simply put, it’s normal to want to learn, grow, and keep evolving into the best version of ourselves over time. Nothing is ever set in stone.
If I can do it, so can you.
But how does one do that, right? Well, it takes effort, courage, and a bit of strategy. What strategy, you may ask? I gotchu.
In this post, we'll talk about:
The 20 things you need to reinvent yourself

1. Self-Awareness
Before you reinvent yourself, you need to know who you are right now. What’s working? What’s not?
I find that the best way to categorize it is:
Qualities I love about myself
Qualities I value
Things/People I am grateful for
Unhealthy habits that I am ready to let go of!
Reflect honestly and without judgment. This is your starting point.

2. A Vision for Your Future
Now that you have your starting point, we can figure out what your ideal self looks like!
Imagine your ideal self—how do they live, work, and feel? Take a look at the qualities you love about yourself, or the qualities you value. What does it look like to live and honor those qualities every day?
Let that vision guide you.
I love using vision boards for this step. They don’t just help me organize my thoughts—they let me see the life I’m working toward, right there in front of me!
The New Life Reset Printable includes a customizable vision board template you can tailor to fit your goals and dreams. So definitely check it out!
3. A Desire to Grow
Change only happens when you want it. Get curious about who you can become and embrace the process. Reinvention is a journey, not a one-day makeover.
4. Clear Goals
This is the most important step.
Vague dreams are hard to chase. How can you become a better version of yourself if you don’t even know what that looks like?
Get clear on what you want to achieve—whether it’s big or small. Maybe it’s learning a new skill, switching careers, or building healthier habits. Whatever it is, write it down and be specific.
Let’s say your vision is to become a morning person—someone who’s up at the crack of dawn, getting things done while the sun rises.
Beautiful vision, right?
Now let’s turn it into a goal: “I want to wake up at 5 a.m.” See the difference? That small shift makes it tangible. A vision inspires you, but a goal gives you something you can actually work toward.
5. A Growth Mindset
Your mindset is everything. Believe you can learn, improve, and evolve.
I'd start having that mindset right in the beginning, especially since mistakes and slip ups are bound to happen. The last thing we want is to be discouraged by a couple of hiccups here and there.
6. Courage
Hollywood montages make reinvention look like a dreamy makeover, but in real life? It’s tough.
Reinventing yourself means stepping out of your comfort zone, trying new things, and literally rewiring your brain. It is scary!
But hey, “It’s supposed to be hard. If it were easy, everyone would do it,” right?
Just remember: fear isn’t a stop sign—it’s a sign that you’re doing something that matters.
7. Supportive People
My boyfriend was my biggest supporter during my reinvention. I honestly don’t think I would’ve made it without him. He gave me comfort, encouragement, and accountability—all at once.
We all need that.
It’s so easy to slip back into old habits—our brains are wired to resist change. That’s why having people who keep us grounded and focused is crucial. Sometimes, we need others to help us fight the battles we can’t always win alone.
Surround yourself with cheerleaders who believe in your potential. Whether it’s friends, family, or mentors, the right support system can make all the difference.
8. Self-Compassion
You’re not going to nail it every day. Mistakes and failures are normal. I'm living my best life right now, and everyday I slip up in some way!
But that’s okay.
Be kind to yourself as you navigate this transformation. Progress over perfection, always.
9. A Willingness to Let Go
This might be the hardest step of all.
You can’t fully step into the new if you’re still clinging to the old. That means letting go of what no longer serves you—whether it’s toxic relationships, limiting beliefs, or unhealthy routines.
These things don’t just take up space in your life—they carry energy that can drag you backward, often triggering the very habits and mindsets you’re trying to leave behind.
Think about it: if my home is cluttered and chaotic, I’m going to feel cluttered and chaotic. If my fridge is full of junk food, I’m going to eat junk food. It’s that simple.
Now zoom out. If your environment—or the people in it—don’t support the energy of the life you want to build, it’s time to make a change.
Letting go can be painful, but it’s also powerful. You’re not losing—you’re creating space for something better.
And remember: we’re still in the planning phase. The more you release now, the easier it will be to step into what’s next.
10. A Fresh Environment
Finally—action time! And we’re starting with your surroundings.
When I began my reinvention journey, the very first thing I did was Marie Kondo my entire space. I got rid of old clothes, books, papers—even furniture. Anything that reminded me of the life I was leaving behind had to go.
And let me tell you—it felt like a giant weight had been lifted. I could finally breathe again.
Rearrange your space. Move to a new city. Find a community that aligns with your vision. Get rid of everything and anything that doesn't have the kind of energy that lifts you higher.

11. A Plan for Action
Now that we’ve cleared out the old, it’s time to create the new! This is where your vision board and goals really come in handy.
Let’s stick with the “morning person” vision for now. You’ve set your goal: wake up at 5 a.m.
So… how do you actually make that happen?
This is where actionable steps come in. Maybe that means going to bed by 9 p.m., setting your alarm clock, or putting your phone away by 7 p.m. and leaving it in the living room instead of next to your bed.
That’s what I mean by a plan of action—concrete steps that bring your goals to life.
The key is to break your goals into small, clear actions. Start simple—because it’s the tiny, consistent choices that lead to big, lasting change.
12. New Habits
I'm assuming you all are sick of me talking about habits, but we have to talk about it.
What you do daily shapes who you become. If you want a new outcome, you’ve got to create new habits. It’s that simple.
Start meditating, journaling, waking up earlier—whatever aligns with your reinvention goals. But don’t just say, “I’m going to wake up earlier to exercise!” and leave it at that.
Write out a schedule. Give your habits a time to happen. Make them real. The more specific and tangible your habits are, the more likely you are to stick with them—and actually see results.
13. Education
Reinvention often requires learning. Take a class, read books, listen to podcasts—whatever helps you grow in the direction you’re headed. Knowledge is power.
Some of my favorite books for reinventing yourself are:
14. Resilience
Now that you’ve embraced a growth mindset and self-compassion, the next key ingredient is resilience—especially as you enter the action phase.
Setbacks will happen. Count on it. But they don’t define you—how you respond to them does.
Stay committed. Keep showing up. Even the tiniest step forward is still progress. What matters most is that you don’t give up on yourself.
15. A Symbol of Change
Let me tell you a little story:
One of my friends was a heavy smoker—he’d been at it for years, even before I met him. Then one day, during a regular smoke break, something just clicked. He decided he was done. He smoked his last cigarette, then left the stub on the ledge next to his usual spot.
He’s never picked up a cigarette since. And that little stub? Still sitting there on that ledge. A quiet reminder of the day everything changed.
Marking a new chapter with something symbolic can be powerful. It could be a fresh haircut, a tattoo, a piece of jewelry—anything that represents your transformation. It becomes a physical reminder of the new life you’re choosing to create.
16. Gratitude for the Old You
Your past self was doing the best they could with the knowledge, tools, and circumstances they had. And let’s be honest—they must’ve done something right, because they got you this far.
Before you say goodbye to that version of yourself, pause and say thank you. Express gratitude for the lessons, the resilience, and even the mistakes. Gratitude brings closure—and it allows you to move forward with peace, compassion, and clarity.
I find that gratitude is best expressed through journaling. Writing things down engages multiple parts of your brain, helping you process emotions more deeply and intentionally.
Here are some of my favorite gratitude journals that have helped me stay grounded and connected during my reinvention journey:
Pick one that speaks to you and make it part of your routine. A few minutes a day can shift your mindset in ways you never imagined.
17. A Focus on Wellness
Reinvention isn’t just mental—it’s physical, too. Take care of your body with nourishing food, movement, and rest. A healthy you is a thriving you.
18. Flexibility
Your journey might not go exactly as planned, and that’s okay. Be open to adjusting your goals and approach as you grow and discover new opportunities.
19. Patience
Reinvention doesn’t happen overnight. It took me almost a year and a half to truly settle into this new version of myself.
So be patient with your journey. Celebrate the small wins along the way, and trust the process. The most meaningful transformations are the ones that take time to bloom.
20. Confidence in Your Potential
Believe that you’re capable of becoming whoever you want to be. Confidence isn’t about already knowing everything—it’s about trusting yourself to figure it out as you go.
When I made the New Life Reset Printable, I thought about everything that I did to reinvent myself, and all the things I wished I did, but didn't have the foresight to think about at that time.
